Since the beginning of household waste recycling, people have utilized “blue-box” method of recycling. Before this method, households were required to sort through all recyclables and separate them by material so that the facilities could more easily handle them. This served as a deterrent as it seemed like more work than it was worth. The Recyclable Separator aims to maintain the convenience of blue-box as well as assist recycling facilities.
